FORBES NETWORK | 2022 is the year of… nothing!! It's us, it's not the month, neither the year...

Updated: Jun 6, 2022

I started this 2022 with the good news of being part of #redforbes and being able to continue sharing my opinions and reflections in this tremendous space... all my gratitude.

This month I wanted to talk about the ability we always have to start over. … I wonder why we have to wait for the end of the year or the beginning of a new one to feel with enough energy to make changes, propose to be better, exercise more, change relationships, start courses, meet friends, travel where we always wanted, in short LIVE. And if rather, we always live like this?…. … I decided to use my new planner to write down some things that allow me to fulfill what I set out to do, but that are useful for any season of the year, like this:

1) Make a list with the things that I have to do or want to do (it does not matter day or month), 2) Solve each issue one step at a time (it is not necessary to do everything in one day),

3) Create a daily routine that allows me to go a little further towards the goal each day,

4) Treat myself with love (I think this is the most important thing)… sometimes I do everything very well, other times very regular and sometimes everything goes wrong for me and that is also fine and

5) Trust my process, trust myself (I underlined this with color highlighter)…

Here is the full column: (I hope you enjoy it)

Is January the month of resolutions and April the month of unfinished tasks? One of the things I like to do the most at the beginning of a new year is to open a planner, a new notebook and write down my purposes and goals. I am one of those people who still sketch a lot on paper to write down ideas, activities, instructions, dreams; I give a lot of value to what is captured on a page. During this dates, social networks are flooded with divine photos and messages such as: “2022, treat me well”, “2022, I expect a lot from you”, “this will be my year”; Even talking to family and friends, many of them are filled with the illusion of the new opportunity to start a cycle with different goals: to find the love of their life, to find the job of their dreams, to take care of their health in a proper way. Among my plans for the year is to return to study, observe more, be more in control of my health and responsible for my vitality, meditate more and eat less sweets; maybe even find a little more joy in walking in the center and not so much in the extremes. As I write all of this in my new planner, I can't help but think that every day we have the opportunity to make our own “January start”, that moment when we feel empowered and have a fresh start and the first big day in the way we want. I wonder why we have to wait for the end of the year or the beginning of a new one to feel with enough energy to make changes, aim to be better, exercise more, change relationships, start courses, meet friends, travel where we always wanted. In short, LIVE. And if rather, we always live like this?

Beyond January According to different fitness associations in the world, as a result of these purposes and goals of being healthier and taking care of yourself; During January, gyms see an increase in registrations of between 50 and 70% in relation to any other month of the year; however, 60% of these new subscribers give up after three months. Is January the month of resolutions and April the month of unfinished tasks? Of course I believe in the mental strength and collective energy of a “fresh” start when starting a new year, but what if we allow ourselves to always start from where we are no matter the date?… We have reached April and we have not yet gone to the pilates classes we promised each other; Well, it doesn't matter, we start that day, regardless of whether the year has already advanced or if, on the contrary, we start at the beginning of the year and now our purposes overwhelm us and we want to give up, could we find a small tactic to not abandon it? I think we have to trust in the process, in doing the best we can and taking it one step at a time. All closures bring us the promise of new beginnings, sometimes we are not aware and these dates invite us to make it evident... but what if we always used the power that is in our hands to close what stopped serving and then start something else? I decided to use my new planner to write down some things that allow me to accomplish what I set out to do, but that are useful for any season of the year, like this:

1) Make a list of the things I have to do or want to do (no matter the day or month), 2) Solve each issue one step at a time (it is not necessary to do everything in one day), 3) Create a daily routine that allows me to move a little closer to the goal each day, 4) Treat myself with love (I think this is the most important thing)… sometimes I do everything very well, other times very deficiently and sometimes everything goes wrong for me and that is also fine and 5) Trust my process, trust myself (I underlined this with highlighter of colors). Let's use this blank planner or notebook to write things that help us know that it has nothing to do with 2022, 2021 or 2023, it has to do with the ability we have to decide every day to take a step forward, towards our dreams, goals, trusting the process. I wish you for this year, many moments of happy and successful first days!!
